I don't really understand black desert online popularity

Idk if this is the right sub for this, but I wanted to have some discussion without getting flamed to hell and back on the bdo sub.

I was once addicted to it, but any more I try to play and it seems like a chore.

Variety in gameplay seems weak. Use high action combat to kill mobs instantly and boss mechanics can’t be avoided with utility from skills, so it kind of begs the question as to why this would exist. The pvp portion of course gets a ton of value from it, but most of the time you’re just running in circles killing mobs for trash loot.

I speak of pvp but I never see any. The world feels dead and any time there is pvp I’m dead before I realize what’s going on. The gear differential is huge, if you don’t have gear close to theirs they fold you like laundry.

It’s also super pay to win. Granted the fee is pretty low to get in, you still need to spend a bunch to stand a chance in a competitive setting. And the pay to win extends far beyond just pvp or pve for that matter. Entire game mechanics become pointless because it’s so much more efficient to buy X or buy Y, that you end up missing out on a lot just doing things the “normal” non cash shop way.

And lastly, the gear grind is the toughest I’ve seen in any game. I only have 240 hours logged, but after spending a ton of 6 to 10 hour sessions running in circles killing mobs, I’m still not very close to one solid piece of gear that could get my foot in the door to start doing things like contesting grind spots via pvp.

Ultimately, it feels like I have to rush everything. I’d really like to like this game, I really would, but each time I come back to it I’m playing less and less. There’s always 14 things I need to do at once and it takes so damn long to get across the map.

What’s everyone’s thoughts and opinions?
